Journal of Contemporary History is an international forum for the analysis and discussion of 20th century history: the people, periods, places and critical issues (Provided by Publisher).
Comparative Studies in Society and History
Comparative Studies in Society and History (CSSH) is an international forum for new research and interpretation concerning problems of recurrent patterning and change in human societies through time and in the contemporary world. CSSH sets up a working alliance among specialists in all branches of the social sciences and humanities as a way of bringing together multidisciplinary research, cultural studies, and theory, especially in anthropology, history, political science, and sociology. Review articles and discussion bring readers in touch with current findings and issues (Provided by Publisher).
Environment and History was founded in 1995 as an interdisciplinary journal, with an avowed intention "to bring scholars in the humanities and Natural Sciences closer together, with the deliberate intention of constructing long and well-founded perspectives on past and present-day environmental problems." The journal is vital to several ongoing research projects as well as taught modules in the Department of History and within The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures more broadly.

Past & Present is widely acknowledged to be the liveliest and most stimulating historical journal in the English-speaking world. The journal’s contents reflect the Society’s belief that history should be accessible and interesting to a wide range of readers, and its articles are intended to appeal to non-specialists as well as to experts. Since its inception in 1952, the mark of a P&P article was that it should be a properly researched study which showed an awareness of the wider implications of that research. Its remit is worldwide, and across all time periods. There are four issues a year, each containing around seven major articles with occasional debates and review essays (Provided by Publisher) .

Google Scholar can be a useful tool to use when searching for journal articles. However, it's important to be aware that Google Scholar will return results for articles, journals and other resources that the Library doesn't necessarily subscribe to and which you might not have free access to as a student at the University of Manchester.
In order to make it easier to identify and access content provided by the Library when searching Google (and without having to visit Library Search), we recommend that you download Library Access. This is a useful browser extension that will pop-up and notify you when you are on a journal or website that the Library has a subscription for.
If you are unable to access an article that you need, fill in the Order an Article form and we will get it for you.
University staff should use the Order an Article (Staff) form.
