- CIA Online Factbook provides information on demographics, economics, and government for every country.
- Infoplease country data. Country profiles providing information on: Maps, Flags, History, Government, Economy, Area, Population.
- Socio-Economic Data and Applications Centre (SEDAC). This is one of the Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) in the Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) of the US National Aeronautics and Space Admininstration. SEDAC focuses on human interactions in the environment.
- United Nations Cartographic Section. The UN map collection houses over 80,000 maps, some 3,000 atlases, gazetteers, travel guides, cartographic and geographic reference works as well as digital cartographic products.
- Worldmapper. A collection of world maps, where territories are re-sized on each map according to the subject of interest.
Gazeteers and place-name data
- Gazetteer for Scotland. This is a vast encyclopedia featuring details of towns, villages, bens and glens from the Scottish Borders to the Northern Isles.
- GEOnet Names Server. GNS provides access to the 3.5 million feature names in the National Imagery and Mapping Agency's (NIMA) database.
- Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names. World gazetteer, including historical and multilingual forms.
- Royal Mail allows searches for postcodes.

- Association for Geographic Information: represents the interests of the UK's geographic information (GI) industry; a wide-ranging group of public and private sector organisations, suppliers of GI software, hardware, data and services, consultants and academics. The AGI brings together the GI community to share ideas on best practice, experience and innovation.
- Association of American Geographers: a nonprofit scientific and educational society which contributes to the advancement of geography. Its members from more than 60 countries share interests in the theory, methods, and practice of geography.
- British Antarctic Survey: has a long and distinguished history of carrying out research and surveys in the Antarctic and surrounding regions, undertaking most of the British research on the frozen continent.
- British Cartographic Association: promotes all aspects of cartography to a wide range of potential users.
- Geographical Association: a subject association whose objective is to further the study, learning and teaching of geography.
- Institute of Australian Geographers: principal body representing geographers and promoting the study and application of geography in Australia.
- Manchester Geographical Society: encourage and publish geographical research on or relevant to the north west of England.
- National Geographic: one of the largest non-profit scientific and educational institutions in the world. Its interests include geography, archaeology and natural science, the promotion of environmental and historical conservation.
- North American Cartographic Information Society: an organization comprised of specialists from private, academic, and government organizations whose common interest lies in facilitating communication in the map information community.
- Royal Geographical Society / Institute of British Geographers: the professional body for geography. We advance geographic research, nationally and globally, to improve understanding of our connected world.
- Royal Scottish Geographical Society: promotes an understanding of the natural environment and human societies through education, dialogue and a programme of activities.
- Scott Polar Research Institute: a well-known and long-established centre for research into both polar regions. It includes several research groups investigating a range of issues in both the environmental sciences and social sciences of relevance to the Arctic and Antarctica.

- Eurogeographics:provides access to European topographic information, cadastre and land information.
