Distance Learning at the University of ManchesterOLD: Searching for information

Using Library Search

Library Search is our library catalogue which you can access from the landing page of the Library website and My Manchester. You can search for books and electronic resources and you can save your results for future reference on the e-Shelf.

This video will guide you step by step on how to access electronic journals and databases using Library Search.

This video will demonstrate how you can effectively use the e-shelf.

If you are looking for a book and it appears as ‘Checked out’ on Library Search you can request copies that are out on loan. This video will show how to ascertain that no copies of a book are available in the Library and how to place a request. Once a copy is available for you, you will receive a notification to your university email address with further instructions.

Installing the VPN (Virtual Private Network)

You can access electronic resources remotely by installing the VPN on your device. For further information about installing a Virtual Private Network please view the video below. Once the VPN is installed on your device, you will be able to download electronic resources as if you were on campus.

For any problems with access to electronic resources or VPN you can contact the University of Manchester IT Services.
